Spiral Zipper

I spent the summer after my sophomore year working in the GRASP Modlab at the University of Pennsylvania. MY project for the summer was to design the second revision of the spiral zipper - an extendable column with high compressibility ratio for applications in robotic arms.
The original design used gears that would engage with slots in the band to drive the system. We decided to switch to a spline drive system which allowed us to make the design more compact.
